Irradiance Results Off During Testing? Try This!

The beauty of using Bluelight to test your curing lights is that we identify the ones that are not performing at their best AND help you troubleshoot some easy fixes.

If you have lights in your clinics that are showing up on our “watch list”…aka, a light that has been properly tested 3 or more times and is not producing acceptable levels of irradiance (+/- 20% of the manufacturer’s stated levels), we’ve compiled these quick steps to help you out.

Before running more tests, please ensure:

  1. there is no visible damage or resin/debris on the light tip

  2. the tip of the curing light is placed flat and in the centre of the Bluelight sensor surface during testing

  3. the tip size and mode of the light selected in the Bluelight app matches the selected mode on the physical light (e.g., 10 mm, Standard Mode)

  4. the light is tested without an infection control barrier. Please note - we are all for using barrier sleeves, especially when checking for the appropriate curing times (see our blog about that here) but when troubleshooting irradiance levels, testing without the barrier provides a more accurate reading.

We recommend incorporating these measures and re-testing your “watch list” lights at least 3 more times before contacting the manufacturer for further investigation or more detailed testing on the specific light.

Don’t hesitate to contact our support team via email if you have any questions or need further assistance. We’re happy to help!
